After applying the contact cement, how can I keep the surfaces apart so that they don’t stick right away?
Dowels (narrow strip or wood/plastic) can be used to prevent surface contact while positioning surfaces. Place dowels/spacers every 6 to 12 inches. Remove dowels as surfaces are pressed together working from the center to the edges to prevent air entrapment.
How soon after application can I trim the edges of the countertop?
Trimming or finishing operations can be performed immediately after bonding.
